οὐ γὰρ πολέμῳ ληφθεῖσα ὑμῶν ἡ πόλις οἴχεται οὐδ᾽ ἀνδρῶν χείρων φανεῖσα, οὐδ᾽ ἔστησεν ἀπ᾽ αὐτῆς τρόπαιον οὐδεὶς, οὐδ᾽ ἀπὸ τῶν ὑμετέρων ἀναθημάτων τὰ παρ᾽ αὑτῷ τις ἱερὰ κοσμήσει, ὥσπερ ὑμεῖς τοῖς ἔξωθεν λαφύροις τὴν ὑμετέραν αὐτῶν πόλιν κατεκοσμήσατε, ἀλλ᾽ ὥσπερ ἀνὴρ ἐν ἀκμῇ τελευτήσας τὸν βίον αὐτὴ καθ᾽ αὑτὴν οἴχεται θειοτέραν λαβοῦσα τὴν τελευτὴν, καὶ οὔτε αἰχμάλωτος ἦκται Ῥοδίων οὐδεὶς οὔτε καθῄρηται Ῥόδος, ἀλλ᾽ ἀνθήσασα εἰς ὅσον ἐξῆν ἐξαίφνης ἠφάνισται.
